About Weir

Weir is a historical important city in Rajasthan, which is also known as Laghukashi. It is a municipality in Bharatpur district of the state. The town belongs to Bharatpur Division and is 45 km towards west from District head quarters Bharatpur. Weir is a Tehsil head quarter.

Weir is located at 25.680N 75.730E at an average elevation of 272 metres. It is surrounded by Nadbai Tehsil towards North, Bayna Tehsil towards South, Sewar Tehsil towards East and Mahwa Tehsil towards West. The nearby villages to Weir town are Jagjiwanpur (4 km), Govindpura (5 km), Jeewad (5 km), Siras (7 km) and Samraya (6 km). The main cities near to the town include Todabhim, Bharatpur, Mahwa and Nadbai.

History of Weir

Weir is a historical city and it was once part of Bharatpur kingdom. The city was founded by Badan Singh. Maharaja Suraj Mal, keeping an eye on the tradition of his people and combining persuasion with force, carefully convince the Jats about the institution of Kingship through matrimonial relations with important families. As a part of this police, Weir was given to Pratap Singh, who was the son of Badan Singh. It is then given to his son Bahadur Singh. Pratap Singh was given the title of “Raja”. Suraj Mal added stately magnificence and gave support to art and letters. Dr Rangry Raghav, a well known Hindi writer and a great poet, was from weir city in Bharatpur.

Weir is a legislative assembly constituency in Rajasthan state. The sitting MLA of this constituency is Sahadur Singh from BJP. Weir legislative assembly constituency comes under Bharatpur parliamentary constituency, one of the 25 parliamentary constituencies in Rajasthan. The other six assembly constituencies such as Kaman, Nagar, Deeg-Kumher, Bharatpur, Nadbai, Bayana-Rupwas are also included in Bharatpur Lok Sabha constituency.

Tourism in Weir

Weir can be called as the garden town of Rajasthan. You can see many gardens of several types of fruits like guava, lemon, aamla, mango, plum etc. It is also a well-known historical town famous for many ancient historical monuments, temples, forts and palace etc. The old great flower park in Weir is an important tourists spot.

There is a famous fort in Weir called Weir Fort, which was built by Badan Singh crenellated ramparts. There is a two-storied arcade Kacheri with a gun in the foreground at Wier Fort. You can also see a barrel of a massive iron cannon lies on the ground in the left foreground. He also built a palace and gardens near the fort. Phulbari Palace is another tourist attraction here.
